I debated on what to title this blog. I went for an old programmer standby. Now, to be honest, I'm no computer programmer. I am, however, a nerd. It's almost like I need a support group. Hi, my name is Emily. I'm a nerd. It's been less than 5 minutes since my last nerdy reference. I'm also the owner, operator, editor, and pretty much do everything for the authors here. I have been known to make covers, write blurbs, proofread, make suggestions, and more. DLS Publishing is really a labor of love. I love books. I graduated with a degree in all things Englishy (technical term there) and did so because books are amazing. Literature, language, all of it is an examination of who we are as human beings. When I taught my college level remedial writing courses, I pointed out that all the things we were supposed to read in high school, we were supposed to read for a reason. We read because through reading, we understand what it means to be human. Who are we? Why are we here? Why do I feel and act this way? Those existential questions may not be directly answered, but they do connect us through history and words to others who feel that way. Does that every book is a literary masterpiece? No. Nor does it mean every book should be approached that way... I highly doubt Cate's spicy writing will be approached in college classrooms in 50 years. (I could be wrong!) However, you should keep in mind that when you read, whatever you read, you are connecting with others on that emotional level. The authors and their characters are sharing their lives and minds with you. Welcome to our world!
